Approximately 100,000 patients in the U.S. die each year from pulmonary embolism (PE), according to Victor Tapson, MD, Professor of Medicine, Associate Director of Pulmonary and Critical Care and Director of the Venous Thromboembolism Research Program at Cedars-Sinai. While the ability to diagnose PE and deep venous thrombosis (DVT) has gotten better with new techniques and sharper CT scans, patients are still often not suspected of having the condition until it’s too late.
