Atiya’s Cedars-Sinai faculty appointment provides patients living in the San Fernando Valley with greater access to a full range of expert cardiac services and care.

“Dr. Atiya is widely regarded as the first choice for excellent patient care for cardiac and thoracic surgery,” said Joanna Chikwe, MD, chair of the Department of Cardiac Surgery in the Smidt Heart Institute and the Irina and George Schaeffer Distinguished Chair in Cardiac Surgery. “We are confident his impressive track record of excellent patient care will make a significant impact at Providence Cedars-Sinai Tarzana Medical Center.”

After earning his medical degree at Albany Medical College, Atiya completed his general surgery residency at UCLA. He then completed his cardiothoracic surgery fellowship at the University of Texas at San Antonio.

Atiya has received many significant honors, including the Daggett Prizes in the Anatomies from Albany Medical College, Outstanding Resident of the Year from the Department of Surgery at UCLA, and the 11th annual SSAT/Ross Residents and Fellows Research Award.

Atiya devotes time and resources to research and education, including advances in minimally invasive mitral and aortic valve surgery, robotic thoracic surgery and endovascular aneurysm repairs.

“This partnership is great news for our entire community of patients in the San Fernando Valley, who can now access Cedars-Sinai expertise in Tarzana,” said Atiya, who previously served as director of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Providence Cedars-Sinai Tarzana Medical Center. “Our state-of-the-art, new facility will really transform the care experience for everyone when it opens next year.”

Cedars-Sinai is ranked #1 in California and #2 in the nation in the 2022-23 U.S. News & World Report “Best Hospitals” issue. Equally notable, the Smidt Heart Institute is ranked #1 in California and #3 in the nation for Cardiology and Heart Surgery.
