Overview
Parkinson's disease (PD) is not only the most common movement disorder, but also the fastest growing neurological disease. According to the Parkinson’s Foundation, nearly one million people in the US are living with PD today and another 60,000 Americans will be diagnosed every year. Given that each PD patient is unique, clinicians face as many specific treatment challenges as the number of PD patients they follow. To help address this need, expert faculty will discuss challenges and opportunities for clinicians and healthcare professionals managing patients with PD, including current and emerging medical and surgical advances that can be implemented to slow disease progression and improve patients’ quality of life. Particular focus will be put on the holistic approach to a complex disorder including motor and non-motor symptoms, nutritional and lifestyle changes.

Objectives

  1. Recognize the clinical presentation, management and progression of Parkinson’s disease and other movement disorders
  2. Assess available therapies available for the management of motor and nonmotor symptoms of Parkinson’s disease
  3. Describe the indications for deep brain stimulation surgery of Parkinson’s disease
  4. Evaluate ongoing and emerging research in Parkinson’s disease and the implications for emerging therapeutic options
  5. Guide patients and caregivers in making key treatment decisions in Parkinson’s disease
