Cedars-Sinai Cancer Community Outreach and Engagement, led by Zul Surani, and staff worked with bilingual and bicultural community health workers, navigators and partners to address cancer health disparities in vulnerable communities by developing and increasing access to cancer prevention and screening through direct-awareness outreach, in-depth workshops, and organizing mobile cancer screening events at federally qualified health centers.

The impact of the Health and Faith Initiative driven by the Community Outreach and Engagement team has greatly improved cancer knowledge and screening uptake, especially in socially and economically marginalized communities throughout L.A. County.

GRAND TOTAL - ALL TYPES 6,075 CASES
For the LGBTQIA+ community, outreach for in-person and virtual events took place at Pride celebrations in L.A. to promote tobacco cessation. In partnership with community agencies, tobacco users were identified to participate in TheQuitAlliance, which held support groups to set participants on a pathway to becoming tobacco-free. After completing the sessions, most participants reported strongly feeling the need to quit (82%) and having strong confidence in their readiness to quit (73%).
